# 365 GTC/4

The quieter V12

A low bonnet, a broad black nose and two occasional rear seats distinguish Ferrari’s 365 GTC/4. Its four-cam V12 shares the Daytona’s displacement, but side-draught carburettors and a conventional gearbox serve a different brief: a grand tourer built around long journeys.

1971–1972 · Maranello

## The quieter V12

Introduced at Geneva in 1971, the 365 GTC/4 gave Ferrari a compact grand tourer alongside the more overtly sporting Daytona. Pininfarina replaced the earlier upright nose with a wide dark grille surround and concealed headlights.

The body’s low front dictated a different induction layout. The V12 used six side-draught Weber carburettors and wet-sump lubrication, while the five-speed gearbox sat behind the engine rather than at the rear axle.

Production was brief, spanning 1971 and 1972 in the principal histories. Surviving cars differ in original market specification and restoration history; the model name alone is not enough to establish their technical or financial equivalence.

| Highlight | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| The bonnet explains the engine | Side-draught carburettors sit low beside the cylinder heads. The resulting bonnet line gives the GTC/4 its distinctive profile. |
| Built to cover distance | Power steering, a self-levelling rear suspension and occasional rear seats place comfort alongside performance. |
| A short production chapter | The accepted production total is 500. Cars catalogued or registered in 1973 do not by themselves extend the principal 1971–1972 build period. |
| A separate market | A Daytona result or a sale of the earlier two-cam 365 GTC is not a comparable GTC/4 transaction. Specification, condition and provenance still need to match. |
