The execution

Kremer’s works-blessed resurrection for the 1981 Group 6 rules — the last 917 ever built, and the last to race Le Mans.

Built in Cologne from factory drawings, with two works Type 912 engines and an aluminium spaceframe stiffened by extra triangulation. Bob Wollek ran as high as ninth at Le Mans 1981 before retirement after seven hours; at Brands Hatch it led before failing. The one 917 whose whole life is post-period.

On the record

- Le Mans 1981 — Wollek/Lapeyre/Chasseuil, out after 7 hours
- Led the Brands Hatch 1000 km before retiring
- €2.65M at Monaco 2024, against a €3.5–5M estimate
