The road-going Longtail
McLaren lengthened the F1 to homologate its 1997 GT1 racer, then built one prototype and two customer road cars. It kept the central seat, manual gearbox and unrestricted 6.1-litre BMW V12.

Overview
A rule change lengthened the F1.
The F1 GTR won Le Mans in 1995 and the BPR titles in 1995 and 1996, but purpose-built GT1 opposition changed the problem. For 1997 McLaren developed new long bodywork and a sequential racing transmission; homologation required a road equivalent.
McLaren built three F1 GTs: the development prototype 56XPGT and customer chassis 054 and 058. The same programme produced ten 1997 Longtail GTR race cars. No F1 GT has a documented public auction result in the sources used here.
