The 166 split Ferrari's first two-litre V12 into two jobs. Inter chassis became coachbuilt road GTs; the shorter, lighter MM won the Mille Miglia, Le Mans and Spa in 1949.

Overview
The customer road car and the competition barchetta arrived together.
Ferrari introduced the 166 MM at Turin in September 1948. Touring's open body prompted Gianni Agnelli's reported use of the word barchetta, or little boat.
Inter chassis went to Touring, Stabilimenti Farina, Vignale and other coachbuilders. The result is not one standard body but a small population of individually documented cars.
