328 GTB / GTS

The final transverse V8

The 328 sharpened the familiar mid-engined Ferrari formula without abandoning it. A larger four-valve V8, a five-speed gated gearbox and revised Pininfarina bodywork came in two forms: the fixed-roof GTB and the removable-roof GTS.

Overview

The final transverse V8

Ferrari presented the 328 at Frankfurt in 1985 alongside the Mondial 3.2. The new name reflected the enlarged V8, while the GTB and GTS body choices continued the established two-seat range.

Pininfarina revised the nose, bumpers and other body details around a recognisable silhouette. The transverse engine and manual transaxle remained central to the car’s packaging and driving character.

Production ended in 1989 as the 348 introduced a new layout and body. The GTS accounts for most of the production run, but neither body style should be assigned an automatic price premium without comparable evidence.
